61984 Chevrolet Corvette Commercial
The first new Chevrolet Corvette in 15 years popped up in early 1983 as a 1984 model. Lighter, smaller, and much cleaner than the old “shark”, it arrived at $21,800- up a cool $3510 – with a 205 horsepower 350 V-8 and manual or automatic transmission. Sales zoomed to 51,547. Good ideas in the ’84 Corvette included an easy clamshell hood, practical lift-up “glassback”, one-piece targa top, a more sophisticated all-independent suspension, and a stiff, Lotus-like backbone frame. Body panels were again made of fiberglass, but were hung on a strong new ‘birdcage’ inner structure. Styling was recognizably Corvette, but was less histrionic and more aerodynamically efficient. Zero-60 mph took about seven seconds.
I LIKE CHEVROLET CORVETTE WAS NAME MOTOR TREND ’84 CAR OF THE YEAR
despite the reputation the C4 had, back in 1983 it was quite the advancement!
