01984 Nissan S/T Pickup 4×4 Test Drive
Revamped Nissan pickup, with new styling inside and out and a somewhat roomier standard cab. A pair of optional packages highlighted Nissan’s truck offerings. The Sport Truck option added power steering, cloth upholstered bucket seats, a center console, AM/FM stereo, and a quartz clock. The MVP (maximum value package) consisted of some interior trim, AM/FM, and side molding, and in the case of the 4×4’s, went on to include a grille guard, light bar, tube rear bumper, and fender flares.
Power for all Nissan trucks came from a 2.2 Liter four. (There was a diesel option, but only for 2WD trucks). That power reached the front wheels through half shafts and an independent suspension system. Thanks to efforts by Toyota, GM, and Mitsubishi such a setup was less remarkable than it was a couple years prior.
