01984: Pantera Revival
The word on the street for years was that Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca wanted a performance sports car to carry the company’s banner. And most of the rumors mentioned a link-up with Alessandro de Tomaso, creator of the original Pantera. Also rumored to be ready by 1986. Chrysler showed a mid-engine prototype that was believed to be De Tomoso’s next Pantera. The car was to have a twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, be produced at a rate of some 7000 a year and sell for roughly $25,000 so it could compete head-to-head with Chevrolet’s Corvette.
