The Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager minivan were introduced in November of 1983 by the Chrysler Corporation. At the time of their debut Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca predicted that the Voyager/Caravan would be to the 1980s what the Mustang was to the 1960s- vehicles that create extraordinary excitement and buyer interest and forced other manufacturers to come up with copycat versions. While Iacocca has since retired, the Caravan and Voyager lived up to his advanced billing and continued into the 1990s as jewels in Chrysler’s crown.
