Aero restyling highlighted this year’s mid size Pontiac 6000 series, which was headed by the performance oriented 6000 STE. This model featured an electronic instrument panel with digital speedometer and analog tachometer. A new bar-chart display showed fuel level, engine temp, and voltage. The 6000 STE also included a programmable Drivers Information Center that monitored car systems. Electronics also controlled the ride and the stereo, which had a five band graphic equalizer. No other Pontiac offered this radio. At the suspension, an air compressor automatically provided pressure to the shocks to maintain optimum height and increase the spring rate as the car’s load changed. As before, the Pontiac 6000 STE had a minimal option list offering a choice of six two tone colors, an extra cost suede leather interior, and a removable sunroof. A high output 2.8 liter V6 rated at 130hp provided the power to a three speed automatic transmission. Four wheel disc brakes were new this year.
