21984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 – A Car Is Born
Vying with Chevy’s Corvette as 1984’s most exciting new Detroit offering was the Pontiac Fiero ‘2M4’ a two seat, mid engine, four cylinder coupe with X-car components driving the rear wheels and Chevette parts up front. Plastic outer body panels clothed a ‘driveable space frame’. The sole engine was a 2.5 liter, 92 horsepower four cylinder, but this was supposed to be a thrifty ‘commuter’ runabout, not a sports car. Still, at $8800 and up, the Fiero was an instant hit, with sales approaching 137,000 in 1984.
….why would they show triplets in a promo for a two-seat car?
exactly, so strange. Ah the 80s!
