1984 Renault Encore Test Drive
Besides the Jeep XJ, the other big news was AMC’s introduction of the U.S. version of the Renault 11, a hatchback derivative of the Alliance, which was called the Encore in this country. It was available in both 2- and 4-door models. Its virtues and vices were similar to the Alliance, which was introduced the year before and had been a lifesaver that American Motors dealerships were waiting for: a contemporary subcompact sedan with front-wheel drive to bring their product line into the Eighties.
