1984 Toyota Corolla Commercial

When it came to building small, inexpensive sedans that offered value for money, no one did better than the Japanese, and Toyota was the preeminent in this field. The Corolla line of sedans were totally revamped in 1983 with the change to front wheel drive and crisply styled bodies that were thoroughly modern. The standard engine for the 4- and 5-door FWD sedan was a peppy 1.6-liter SOHC inline-4 that provided above average performance for the under $7000 class. The Corolla was a car that would accommodate adults in roomy comfort front and rear, and , perhaps best of all, there was the knowledge that Toyota’s hard earned reputation for building extraordinarily reliable cars should mean miles of trouble free driving. In older sporty cars it may be acceptable to put up with niggling problems, but in an inexpensive sedan the emphasis was on fuss-free motoring that needn’t be dull.
