81985 Cadillac DeVille Manufacturer Promo
Cadillac’s bread and butter DeVilles and their ritzier Fleetwood models were again downsized for 1985, and they switched to front wheel drive. Critics applauded, but sales dropped some 18,000, to 141,000. Higher prices hurt, The Sedan DeVille for instance sold for $18,571, up $950 from the 1984 version. Cadillac remained in tenth spot in overall salves versus 1984, increasing total sales from 300,300 to 384,840.
The beginning of the failed downsized era at Cadillac and GM. It is interesting to look back and wonder what were they thinking? I know they were following a government mandate and thankfully by 1989 they were able to reverse that decision.
I LIKE CADILLAC DEVILLE SO SEXY GORGEOUS LUXURY CAR FROM THE 70S,80S AND EARLY 90S ERA
Great video. These were some of the best Cadillacs ever in terms of comfort, convenience, and style..especially the interiors. So modern for their time. GM and Cadillac really pioneered the beginning of On Board Diagnostics (OBDII is mandatory in all cars today).
A nice, refreshing change for the time over the larger, aging RWD models.
These Cadillac’s were full of problems with everything from engine & transmission woes, electrical gremlins, even body and paint problems. My 88 deville was the worst Cadillac I’ve ever had and was falling apart by 95,000 miles. A Citation like car overall-albeit quite popular and drove nicely when it ran.
I have a 1985 Sedan DeVille that is still going (lot of work behind that). There are some nice things about it, but for the most part it is just a deluxe Celebrity
LOL!
I also have an 1985 Seadan Deville and I bought it brand new at the right old age of 21 yrs of age. Over all it’s the best car I’ve ever had and she like to be treated like the queen. With only 189000 thousand miles on her she’s still is a beautiful car to look at. She loves the old school antique car shows where she can show her stuff. Although she is retired now but every now again we love to take her out and remember those good old days.
