The ‘New’ Chrysler Corporation was coming off the most successful year in its history. Based on the 1985 models, the rejuvenated firm showed every sign of extending its roll throughout the following 12 months. While still not completely out of the financial woods, the Legions of Chairman Lido made believers out of many staunch skeptics. Along the way, Chrysler showed an uncanny ability to extract maximum utility from its original front-drive K-car platform and create luxury and performance variants that were both capable and cost efficient. Changes would be minimal on quite a few models, but there were a number of very significant cars in Chrysler Co’s 1985 fleet. And virtually all the carryover product would also benefit from a number of upgrades, primarily to the basic powertrain components.
