The Mercury so-called family sized car Grand Marquis and Colony Park Wagon continued to roll merrily against the prevailing winds of downsizing. Mercury’s Grand Marquis was Lincoln-Mercury’s top seller, and neither division could afford to neglect this survivor from the era of cheap fuel, even if they crowded the 2-ton barrier. 
Curb weights in this category limited the engine options to one choice, the trusty 5.0-liter V8 and changes for the 1985 model were minor.
Like its cousin Ford LTD Crown Victoria, the big Mercury Grand Marquis still fared quite well in 1985, racking up some 161,258 sales.
