The Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais originated in 1985 as the Oldsmobile Calais. The Calais was a front-wheel-drive, five-passenger two-door coupe available for 1985 with either a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a 3.0-liter V6. It was similar to the Buick Somerset Regal and Pontiac Grand Am; the three cars were the first to be based on GM’s new N platform. The standard engine for the ’85 Calais was an overhead-valve inline-four-cylinder displacing 151 cubic inches or 2.5 liters. This was GM’s Iron Duke “Tech IV” engine, which had a 9 to 1 compression ratio, throttle-body injection and hydraulic valve lifters. It had a cast-iron block and head, and produced 92 horsepower and 134 foot-pounds of torque. It was available with a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission. Optional was an overhead-valve V6 displacing 181 cubic inches or 3.0 liters. It had an angle of 90 degrees between cylinder banks. It ran with a compression ratio of 9 to 1 and produced 125 horsepower and 150 foot-pounds of torque. This engine was paired only with the automatic transmission.
I should know this… did Chevrolet ever have an ‘N’ car?
sort of kind of… the Corsica/beretta twins were eventual loose derivatives…
