Monte Carlo was available in LS SPort coupe and SS Sport coupe. Gas shocks and aluminum alloy wheels standard on the SS. Redesigned interior and dash both models along with new composite headlamps on LS are the few changes for the 1986 Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo! I was trying to remember when the aero exterior mirrors arrived. It was 1986. I remember Monte Carlo LS too. That car was a good all around package and value for the price. Great styling, features and money for the price. Thank you for posting this video. I wonder why the other G Bodies did not get those exterior mirrors…
Those “aero” mirrors were used on other GM models, particularly Chevrolet models. Check out 3rd generation Camaros and 4th generation Corvettes. Those mirrors also eventually made their way to the Caprice line, before the bodystyle change in 1991. The aluminum wheels for ’86 (and ’87 – ’88) Monte Carlo SS were actually previously used on certain late 2nd generation Camaro Z28s. The Sport Coupe model (with the older front fascia/sealed beam headlamps) was phased out after 1986. For 1987 – 88, the LS Luxury Sport was the standard Monte, available with the upscale CL interior option. Always loved these cars, especially the SS. G-Bodies are appreciating in value, and will continue to do so. They were popular as new, and have great, classic, timeless styling. I always enjoy seeing material on Monte Carlo. Thank you for a great post!! Anything for 1987 and 1988?
