01986: Give me Liberty
No, this wasn’t a Honda Civic weaving through the cones, it was Chrysler Liberty, Lee Iaccoca’s answer to General Motors Saturn project. Billed as a rolling test bed, designed to evaluated “components, materials, and manufacturing techniques”, a car something like the liberty was to reach the showrooms by 1988. In fact, at the Chrysler’s annual meeting, where the car was unveiled, Chrysler promised the liberty would be out before Saturn. Which at the time, a site for the production Saturn had not even been chosen.
