The 1991 Chevrolet Caprice was known as a strikingly contemporary and attractive front engine rear drive family car. Up until 1987 the program was one of GM’s most secret operations, due in part to the comparatively radical redesign of one of Chevrolet’s most recognizable heartbeats. The illustration, based upon an informant’s sketch, showed why. Instead of a virtually upright grille and front end treatment, the GM300 traded up to a starkly shark like nose profile, featuring new standup hood ornament prominently displaying the Chevy bowtie. Flush mounted composite headlights with outboard turn indicators were set in the lowered aerodynamic nose. The rest is history.
