01987 Dodge Lancer Shelby Review
It’s a bit bigger and perhaps a tad more civilized than the Daytona, but the Lancer also got the hotted-up, limited-edition Carroll Shelby treatment for 1987, with the 174-bhp intercooled Turbo II 2.2-liter 4-cylinder. Mated to Chrysler’s hybrid 5-speed gearbox (Getrag gears were housed in a Chrysler case), while a 146-bhp Turbo I engine and 3-speed automatic were available for less stout hearts. Fitted with modest 205/60HR-15s, they had little effect on handling and improved the ride compared to the Daytona Z. The padded steering wheel and perforated leather buckets added a touch of comfort and class.
