1987 saw the transformation of the (even then) long in the tooth ‘Fox body’ mustang, touting new Taurus like rounded corners and flush euro style headlamps and turn indicators. The performance was also upgraded. The 302 cubic inch V8, marketed ubiquitously as a 5.0 was technically a 4.9, but horsepower was up from 210, to 225 displaying an attractive intake topper. The sprint to 60mph was quite respectable for 1987, even if many publications from the day obtaining better numbers from the more basic LX 5.0 due to the weight increase from the GT’s skirting.
