31987 Oldsmobile Aerotech
One of the outstanding research vehicles developed by Oldsmobile in the 1980’s was the Aerotech. Built in ‘short-tail’ and ‘long-tail’ versions, the Aerotech was a sleek, high speed race car built to test performance of the Quad 4 engine. In it famed auto racer AJ Foyt established a world closed course speed record of 257.123 MPH, and a new world speed record for the ‘flying mile’ of 267.399 MPH in October 1987.
OH YEAH FAMOUS CONCEPT CAR IN OLDSMOBILE HISTORY IS AEROTECH WITH QUAD 4 ENGINE TOP SPEED:267.399 MPH VERY FAST BROKE THE RECORD BOOK
I spoke with the lead designer of the SSC tuatara, Jason Castriota, and he agreed that there was some influence from the Aerotech in the new UA replacement!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!! everyone has been saying im full of BS when i talk about this engine and what its capable of. I was subsrcibed to your original youtube channel and was the one who sent you an email about this a while back.
The quad 4 turbo is probably one of the hardest to track down since most were destroyed. we believe that there is 2 of them still around, 1 is a black convertible pace car, and the other a gold PPG pace car. other than those 2, no other information has surfaced just yet, but we Quad guys keep looking all the time.
The Quad 8 was displayed only once at an auto show.(not sure which one.) and its concept would travel on to become Aurora V8.
the record the Aerotech set is a record that has yet to be broken by anyone. i still find it impressive that over 20 years later, this engines design STILL outpowers many v6’s and v8’s. and it still beats most of the competition. i just wish that GM would have kept Oldsmobile around. who knows what they may have come up with if they kept that engine around.
