Two specialty cars and a new 4-cylinder engine topped the Oldsmobile introductions for 1987. Again, this was a GM division that talked of “targeting new product entries toward younger buyers” and, again the new entries were nothing more than variations of existing themes.
The new Touring Sedan , a model which the manufacturer claimed to be possessed of “international flair,” was based on the Ninety-Eight Regency.
It stayed as the full-size flagship and included composite headlights, new grille, front-end panel, side marker lamps and relocated external rear view mirrors to reduce wind noise. The Touring Sedan offered its own, more subdued ornamentation, and lavish leather and walnut interior trim.
