At Pontiac, excitement for 1987 came in the sedan class.  The new Bonneville seated six and took the spot as the top sedan in the Pontiac line.  The new car replaced both the midsize Bonneville and the full-size Parisienne.  Pontiac borrowed the chassis from the Olds 88 and Buick LeSabre.  You can spot the lines of those models in the roof and greenhouse.  But the rest of the design was pure Pontiac.

With its own fenders, hood and deck, the Bonneville had a more rounded shape than its sister models. The rounded theme continued inside, where the instrument panel, door pulls and seats had more curves than you’d ever seen in a Pontiac. Mechanical details were identical to those of the 88 and LeSabre.  The engine was a Buick-developed 3.8-liter V6 that sat crosswise and drove the front wheels through GM’s 4-speed automatic transaxle.  Like its cousins, the Bonneville had independent suspension for all four corners and sat on a 110.8-in. wheelbase.
