51987 Subaru Justy Test Drive
JUUuuust enough power….
Background: This class 2 mini-compact was launched at the Tokyo Auto Show in 1983 and got a 1.2 liter engine in 1986. The Justy ECVT was introduced in Japan in February 1987. It was made at the Gunma factory. It was exported to Canada in 1986, and the US in 1987. 13,240 Subaru Justy’s were sold in 1987.
They had CVT’s back in 87?! WAT.
Yup! And I believe the Fiat Uno, and or Ford Fiestamatic had them before Subaru!
Volvo had CVT’s in some markets in the 70’s. They were quite horrible I understand. To this day the CVT is genius and not quite yet perfect.
The CVT in the 2013 Honda Accord is actually smooth compared to some other CVT’s in the past such as some early 2000 Nissans.
The Subaru Justy is about the size of the Yugo GV/GVL/GVS/GVX and the Suzuki-made Chevrolet Sprint. “Super-mini” cars in the U.S. today such as the Ford Fiesta & Chevrolet Spark are slow & painfully lacking in interior room.
