11988 Chevrolet Beretta GT Test Drive
The Beretta coupe and its sedan counterpart, the Corsica, were introduced in March 1987 as 1988 models. Neither car, since they were derived primarily from existing components represented a major technological breakthrough. but the sporting appearance of the Beretta plus its availability in 1988 as a GT model that could also be ordered with a Z51 Performance Handling Package contributed to Chevrolet’s most successful new model launch since the Citation’s in 1979.
The GT Z51 option consisted of the following items:

2.8 Liter MPFI V-6 engine. (This engine, which developed 130 horsepower 130 horsepower @ 4700 rpm and 160 pound-feet of torque @3600 rpm was required for the GT option.

Getrag-designed five-speed manual transmission.

Level III Sports Suspension with heavier solid stabilizer bars, high consistency bushings, and larger front struts.

Goodyear Eagle GT+4 205/60R-15 all season radials mounted on fifteen inch wheels.

Dual outlet exhaust.
The Beretta GT accelerated from zero to thirty mph in 2.8 seconds and to sixty mph from rest in 9.5 seconds. Lateral acceleration was recorded as 0.83 g.
