11988 Chevrolet Spectrum & Sprint Manufacturer Promo
Chevrolet’s Suzuki-built econo champ held its title for 1988 with the addition of the Sprint Metro, a bare-bones price leather capable of 54-58 mpg. But if 46 hp on skinny tires didn’t shake your tree, there was still the Turbo Sprint, a 70-hp baby beast that squirted from 0-60 mph in 10.5 seconds and wouldn’t send you into the gravel on sharp turns.
Looking for something slightly larger and built from a different Japanese manufacturer, this Isuzu was more than a worthy replacement for the Chevette, which finally went the way of the Dodo bird. The multiport fuel injected, 110-hp Spectrum Turbo could rip off 0-60 mph times in less than 9 seconds and looked good in the process. For 1988, the Turbo got alloy wheels adn a rear deck spoiler to go with the slick 5-speed, F41 sport suspension, P185/60R14 tires, full instrumentation and fog lamps. What more could a boy-racer ask for?
