It may have seemed to Chrysler watchers that the corporation would pick up any Mitsubishi vehicle that plugged a niche in the pentastar produce line-up. That may have been the case, but the 1987 Dodge Raider fit just such a gap. Highland Park truck planners were known to be working on a V6 SUV vehicle based on the original Dodge Dakota, which would fit neatly between the full-sized V8 Ramcharger and the naturalized Japanese-American 4-cylinder powered Raider. As an entry level 4×4, the Raider was an interesting candidate on any off-roader’s shopping list.
