With its classic lines and rear wheel drive via a sold axle, the Ford Mustang continued on to be sold as a notchback, and a fastback hatch, but for 1988 a convertible was added. Two finish levels were offered; LX with a 4-cylinder base engine or an optional V8 which was standard on the GT. While the Mustang platform was starting to show its age, its sales held up well, providing hot competition to the GM F-body cousins.
