11989 Audi V8 Test Drive
Audi’s new for 1989 V-8 made its first appearance at the World of the Automobile in Paris. While its galvanized steel body was more or less identical to the 100/200 models, especially in the front, the engine certainly piqued curiosity. It was an aluminum 90 degree V8 with 217 cubic inches, or 3.6 liters, and with four overhead cams and .32 valves, developing 250 hp. Interesting detail, its block and heads com from the Volkswagen GTI 16-valve. Based on the footage in this presentation, the performance didn’t look particularly impressive, or at least when compared with and Audi 200 Turbo.
It’s amazing how far the A8/Audi has come.
