BMW did not concede the 3-series market to the Japanese or anyone else. For 1989, the 127-horsepower 325 was history, and even the base model 2-door 325i was equipped with the potent 168-horsepower six, which was quicker, better handling and cheaper ($24,650) than its chief competition, the Acura Legend coupe. And there was a model for everybody, including the sporier 325is and convertible, 4-wheel-drive 2- and 4-door 325iX, adn M3, BMW’s 192-horsepower road rocket.
