11989 Buick Century Coupe Test Drive
Resting sedately in the middle of the lineup, overshadowed in 1988 by the introduction of the new Regal sport coupe, was one of Buick’s sleepers, the Century coupe. With a minimal fuss Buick designers effected a remarkable transformation of the stodgy Century into a contemporary family coupe. Most apparent was the Century’s new roofline, which curved gracefully into rear quarter panels that angle inward to full with tail-lamps. The once blunt nose now tapered away from a Regal like Chrome grille. The Century didn’t have the Regals flash interior and high dollar options like ABS and compact-disc player. But if offered with the new 160 horsepower 3300 V6 and the performance suspension package, the Century was without a doubt a much sweeter car to drive than the underpowered Regal.
