1989 Chevrolet S-10 vs Ford Ranger Manufacturer Promo

The Chevrolet S10 and GMC S15 compact pickups were identical except for their name badges, trim-package designations, and base prices.  GMC models had slightly higher base prices; option prices were the same.  All models gained anti-lock rear brakes and power brakes as standard equipment for 1989, while 4-wheel-drive models also added power steering as standard.  The brake system remained front discs/rear drums on all models; the new anti-lock feature prevented the rears from locking prematurely, which could cause skids.  Power brakes previously were standard only on 4WD and extended cab models. A new electric speedometer that generated the speed signal for the anti-lock system was standard.

The S10 Cameo, offered only in California and Florida in 1988, would be available nationally as a dealer-installed conversion on 2-wheel-drive, short bed models.  Cameo features included a wraparound front air dam, ground effects side panels, wheel flares, and monochrome exterior paint (red, white or black).
