Insiders said the second generation of S-model vehicles, Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, GMC’s S-15 Jimmy, and their pickup trucks, would show many of the styling cues displayed on the striking XT-1, a futuristic, aerodynamic engineering exercise Chevrolet displayed at the 1987 Chicago Auto Show. This illustration blended styling attributes from the XT-1 with the S-truck for a look at what was expected.
While not as forward reaching as the XT-1 sport/utility concept vehicle, the S-10/S-15 were still a quantum leap forward in usually boring truck styling. Sources within GM said as much of the XT-1 look was put into the S-truck as was practical.
None of the wild tech explored by the XT-1, 4-wheel independent steering, heads up display, and futuristic electronics were ever expected in the next gen S-truck.
