The Dodge Colt DL Wagon had down-home go-anywhere dependability and rugged, take-any-thng utility, combined with thrifty efficiency and nimble driving ease.
With four doors and a high-opening rear hatch, the DL Wagon offered easy access to its spacious interior-made even more spacious by a raised roof panel over the rear two-thirds of the passenger/cargo area.
The standard front-drive Colt Wagon power plant was a 1.5-liter four-cylinder of 75 hp, but with the optional full-timeWD system the DL Wagon was equipped with a more powerful 87 hp 18-liter engine. The transaxle was a five speed manual.
Front suspension was composed of MacPherson struts and coil springs, while the rear suspension of the 4WD DL Wagon was a sturdy live axle, suspended by coil springs and located by multiple links. The 4WD DL wagon was also fitted with heftier brakes, with the front discs having vented rotors. The steering was power assisted rack and pinion. For good traction in all conditions, the 4WD DL Wagon was fitted with P185/70R14 all-season steel-belted radial tires.
