1989 Eagle Talon TSi Test Drive
All wheel drive was a rarity in the 80s. Typically reserved for high end models. When the diamond star venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler introduced the Eclipse/Laser/Talon triplets, this feature made it available to much wider audience. Coupled to an extremely potent 195hp turbocharged four, these compact cars really shot off the line with authority, and exhibited zero torque steer that plagued lesser high powered front drive coupes they competed amongst. But not only did it move in a straight line quickly, it was a handler too, compared solely to Audi’s quattro system. Looking fast was something the Talon also exceeded at. With turbine wheels, spoilers galore, and era correct concealed headlamps the overall look was clean and pleasing. Personally I prefer the first gen to the preceding generations, as they eventually became larger and heavier. But take a look at what many will call an iconic, if not future collectible.
