11989 Ford Taurus SHO Test Drive
Ford’s Taurus was popular and successful from the beginning in 1986. Still one of America’s top sellers, the Ford Taurus returned for 1989 with the hot new SHO high-performance model that included a 3.0-liter Yamaha dual overhead cam V-6 with four valves per cylinder. It was linked to a Mazda five-speed transmission. The engine developed 220-horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Also included were a ground effects package, alloy wheels and performance tires. The SHO sold for $19,739. It was capable of 0-60 mph in seven seconds and did the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds at 94 miles per hour.
