1989 Sterling SLi Hatchback Test Drive
This begun-by-the-Japanese,-finished-by-the-British mid-lux car did not have the success that it deserved in the U.S. though Acura under the skin, Sterling did not approach Legend sales. But that was the result of marketing as much as anything else. Compared with Honda’s effort in selling its Acura, Austin Rover was a piker, not to mention Acura’s incomparable dealer body. Still, the Sterling was nicer than the Acura inside, with well-executed trim and upholstery, and was as much of a pleasure to drive. In 1989, there was a fastback model.
