Toyota had a brand-new Cressida for 1989, much smoother, rounder and blander than the angular car it replaced. Cressida was still front-engined, rear-drive with a 3.0-liter 24-valve DOHC inline six. It had a strut type front suspension, twin-wishbone rear with coil springs all around, all bearing a much more rigid unit gody. ABS was optional. The new Cressida was longer, lower, wider. The engine management system interrupted power when the automatic transmission shifted to smooth the shift further.
