1990 Chevrolet 454SS Test Drive

On September 1, 1989, Chevrolet introduced its new 454SS high performance, limited editions truck. Its 454 cubic inch V8 developed 230 horsepower @ 3600 RPM, and 385 pound-feet of torque @ 1600RPm. Production of the 454 SS commenced in October 1989. Priced from $18,845, the 454Ss had a 3-speed automatic transmission along with a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio as standard. On October 26-27 1989, a ’90 454SSbroke the thirty-seven year old production car record at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, averaging 103.463 miles per hour easily exceeding the old mark of 89.93 MPH set by a Chrysler in 1953.

i would prefer the 1991, with at least four gears in its auto tranny!
