While veteran players dominated the home team for 1990, there was certainly no shortage of all new offerings sprinkled throughout the domestic roster. Each member of the big 3 introduced at least one all new platform it believed would vie for legitimate All Star status. That’s not to say the more familiar faces were short changed. Most benefited from significant upgrades, primarily with an eye toward increasing safety, comfort, and convenience. But performance types 1990-GM-newmodels4would also find plenty to be happy about. General Motors could lay claim to bragging rights for the greatest amount of new product, thanks in large part to its eagerly awaited APV vans from Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile, the new GM10 models, a reskinned Oldsmobile Toronado/ Trofeo, and convertible versions of the Buick Reatta, Chevrolet Beretta, and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. And let’s not forget that rocket come lately, the ZR1 Corvette. The GEO line also expanded, adding the new Storm coupe and Prizm four door.

But American automakers were preparing to do battle among themselves and against their import rivals, armed with the best built, best equipped offerings they had ever put on a show room floor.
