01990: The Lincoln of Minivans
Code-named “the VS54”, apparently Lincoln was considering a version of the Ford/Nissan joint-venture minivan. This front-wheel-drive people mover was slated to be introduced in the fall of 1991 as a 1992 model, one year before the Mercury and Nissan versions.
The Lincoln styling cues were obvious: alloy wheels from a Continental, a Conti-like rear bumper, and the subtle rocker sill flares from the Sable. A source at Lincoln said the vehicle was ‘very-upscale; it could be sold under the Lincoln nameplate.”, which leads me to believe this was really the Mercury version the whole time. Though I never found the Villager/Quest interior upscale. Nice, yes. Upscale, meh. The rendering however, had a ‘Windy’ look.
