Some rather heavy competitive pressures – not the least of which from Toyota’s Lexus and Nissan’s Infiniti divisions- forced Honda to upgrade the Acura Legend for 1991. It became larger and more luxurious, not to mention more expensive – as Honda moves to catch up with the bigger and fancier Lexus LS400 and Infiniti Q45.
The car also being designed to join the Lexus and Infiniti in their assaults on the traditional big luxury cars from Europe, including BMw, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar.
Although styling remained quite similar, there was changes under the hood. The engine remained V-6, but moved up in power. to keep up with its rivals.
