1991 Dodge Colt Test Drive

1991-dodge-colt2

Dodge and Plymouth dealers had a way to satisfy shoppers for subcompact entry level hatchbacks, and they were both called Colt. Varying only in trim, the Dodge and Plymouth Colts were variations of Mitsubishi’s Mirage, and  compared favorably with entry-level Honda and Toyota models

The Colt offered all the usual benefits of a 3-door hatchback.  Itr had seating capacity for five, though it helped if the three in the back were the junior variety, and the rear seat folded down for additional storage over and above the nominal 11.5 cu ft.  Suspension by struts up front and a torsion axle at the rear provide a smooth ride.  Powered by a 1.5-liter SOHC inline 4, with multipoint fuel injection made 92 horsepower, and  peppy performance  for a 2200 pound vehicle.

Something not available on the Colt was a cheap look.  Rather the car’s handsome profile said small and inexpensive, which explained why Colt buyers tended to be predominantly young , female and single.  With good taste I might add.
