Big skies, big open country, Big Macs. America likes all things big. Perhaps that’s why the full-size Pontiac Bonneville endured for almost 50 years.
The 1991 Pontiac Bonneville looked like a retirement car that clogs up the streets of Florida, but it also made for a wonderful family car. The base LE, SE, and SSE trims all feature a powerful 3.8-liter, 165-hp V6 engine and 4-speed automatic. Though off-the-line acceleration was sluggish, thanks to the auto trans, once the 1991 Bonneville hit highway speeds, it was quiet, smooth, and a reasonably fast ride. Though the LE came standard with few comforts, the SE and especially the SSE were decked out with all the luxuries to make long car trips enjoyable, such as cruise control, power seats, fog lights, ABS brakes, lighted entry, and headlight cleaners. And the Bonneville was great for long trips, as it sat six adults comfortably. No more griping about crossing over someone’s imaginary line in the backseat.
