1991 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA Test Drive
The 1991 Firebirds were introduced in the spring of 1990 with new front and rear styling treatments. This included a new rear spoiler for the Formula, Trans Am, and GTA models, and a sweeping rocker panel treatment on the T-A and GTA. Engine choices included the 140-horsepower 3.1-liter V-6, 5-liter V-8 with throttle body fuel injection and 170 horsepower, 5-liter V-8 with tuned port injection and either 205-horsepower (when equipped with the four-speed automatic) or 230-horsepower (if fitted with the five-speed manual), or a 5.7-liter tuned port injection V-8, available only with the automatic making 240 horsepower. The Formula with the TPI 5-liter arrived with the capable WS6 suspension package as standard equipment. For the hard-core performance enthusiast, there was the GM Performance Parts “SLP” package, which stood for “Street Legal Performance.”
