01991: Porsche’s Future Relied on the Past
Porsche would replace its Carrera 2/4 and 911 Turbo in 1996 as a 1997 model. A Porsche design directive was that the car be “instantly recognizable as a 911, even without a Porsche badge.” Therefore, the two-seater would keep its basic 27year-old shape, and the engine remained in the tail. But the faithful six-cylinder war rumored to get ditched in favor of a longitudinally mounted 370-hp V8!
