With the hubbub over the MX5 Miata, Mazda’s other sports car got lost in a hail of hype. No more, this is what was predicted to be the all-new 1993 FD RX-7, before it made its official debut at the Tokyo auto show in October of 1991. With the exception of the Stealth-esque tail end, and minor front details, it was pretty close. Power would again come from a two-rotor Wankel, although a pair of sequential turbos bumped output from the FC’s 200 horsepower to a more healthy 255 hp. That much adrenaline in a car weighing only 2800 pounds was just the ticket for five-second 0-to-60 blasts and a top speed of over 150 mph figures that allowed it to do battle with Nissan’s turbocharged 300ZX.
