BMW’s new 3-series bowed first as a four door sedan, and the coupe followed after. The new cabin had a drivers’s side airbag, and was sold along side the previous 318i and 325i convertible, carried over for 1992.
At 106.3 inches, the 92 version’s wheelbase was 5 inches longer than the previous 3-Series. It was longer overall, wider, and heavier. Shoulder room increased , but despite the stretch, leg room was up less than 1.5 inches front and rear, partially because the engine moved rearward for batter distribution.
