01992: Chrysler’s Next Medium Car Was Bigger Than a Breadbox But No Longer Styled Like One
Spy photographs showed that Chrysler’s 1995 mid-size sedans, code named the JA cars would perpetuate the corporate cab-forward design pioneered by the LH cars.
Although the LH sedans were larger and slightly more expensive than the Ford Taurus when introduces, Chrysler hoped to give Ford’s best selling car tough price competition with the JA models, which instead went up against Ford’s Contour, the up-sized successor to the Tempo. The JA sedans would also target the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
Larger than their predecessors, the Dodge Spirit, Plymouth Acclaim and LeBaron, the JA’s would measure 1986 inches long and ride on a 108-inch wheelbase, which put them virtually dead on the measurements of their chief Japanese competition, but shorter than the Taurus.
