11992 Eagle Talon Promo – vs the Competition
For its third season, Eagle’s sports coupe exchanged its hidden headlights for exposed ones and got a new hood and recontoured front fenders and fascia. At the rear were remodeled tail-lamps and spoiler. Additionally, the sporty TSi versions got monotone exteriors.
Talons remained 3-door hatchbacks built in Illinois by Diamond-Star Motors, the joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi that also produced the similar Plymouth Laser and Mitsubishi Eclipse. They, too, received Talon-like styling updates for 1992, but the Plymouth was a tad more visually distinctive from the others and added an RS Turbo AWD model that mimicked the Talon TSi AWD with permanent all-wheel-drive.
All these cars were built to a Mitsubishi design, with drivetrain components imported largely from Japan. Chrysler eventually sold its Diamond-Star interest to Mitsubishi and Laser production dropped after 1994.
