Unlike its boxy predecessor, Mazda’s new 929 had a flowing profile more in tune with other offerings in the class. It was still a rear drive four door, but the wheelbase grew to 112.2 inches, from 106.7, while overall length decreased by a half inch. Width was up by nearly three in, with a resulting increase in interior shoulder room, and weight was up by about 120 lb, to 3596. The trunk shrank from 15.1 cubic feet to 12.4. Anti-lock brakes were standard. A single trim level was offered but two option groups were available.
