11993 Ferrari 512 TR Test Drive
The prima donna of the automobile had been the first to suffer from the economic crisis and the order books, nicely filled until then, decreased by more than 35%. The Testarossa, which already suffered from the success of the Diablo, should have been rapidly improved to “face the music”. The Pininfarina designers redesigned the front end in the style of the 348, the wizards of Maranello found 48 extra horsepower from the famous V-12 engine and its family name was reduced to 512 TR for the occasion.
The economic crisis, the increased competition and the lack of competitive results deprived this arrogant Italian maker of more than 30% of its 1992 sales. In spite of a freshened up power train and a name change, the Testarossa was no longer at the head of the honors list.
