The first Hyundai-designed engine debuted under the hood of the Scoupe for 1993. It was a 1.5-liter, 12-valve, SOHC four producing 92-horsepower; a decent step up from the 81 horsepower of the previous engine. Also new was a turbocharged variant, which boasted 115-horsepower of output. Front and rearend styling was freshened, and a new four-speed electronic automatic transmission was available. Brake performance was improved, but ABS and airbags were not available.
